Look, I’m not here to gloat about how great it is driving for Uber. You need to sign up for yourself to know because everyone has a unique experience. But I am here to proclaim this.
If you complete only a few trips a month, picking up and driving people around town, you could save hundreds of dollars a year on daily, and monthly, expenses.
Saving money from vehicle maintenance and a discounted phone bill are two examples of savings.
Uber Driver Rewards Program Explained
Utilizing Uber as a tool to make money isn’t the only option available to you. Because you are defined as an independent contractor, Uber understands there are extra expenses that you may incur since you are essentially running your own business.
To help combat some of your cost, Uber created what’s called the “Uber Driver Rewards Program”.
What happens is Uber partnered up with businesses in your area so you can receive a discount on some of the places you already go to.
Your local auto shop, your phone company, even discounts for filing taxes can be applied when you drive for Uber.
It’s a win-win situation because the businesses attract more customers and you receive a discount in the process with minimal effort.
Money That I have Saved From Uber
I currently have a phone plan with AT&T. With Uber’s Rewards Program I save $15 a month on my phone bill.
Spread over 12 months, that’s $180 a year that I’m saving just being an active Uber partner.
A family of four could be saving a lot more on their phone bill.
This past Christmas, My car needed a lot of attention. I needed new brakes, new rotors, and a new axle.
My bill came out to about $1,200!
However, thanks to Uber’s Driver Rewards I received a 10% discount. This saved me close to $120 for an auto shop that I already went to before I started driving.
Oil changes and getting tires replaced are some of the other most common repairs somebody would require. Saving cost on these bigger expenses can help out immensely.
If you just combine the savings from my phone bill and maintenance around Christmas, I netted an extra $300 for the year that I would have spent otherwise without this program.
With other expenses occurring throughout the year, I actually saved a lot more than just $300.
Few of the items I’ve saved money on:
- Phone Bill
- Car Maintenance
Requirements to Receive the Driver Rewards
This is the best part about the program. When Uber first started the program, you had to complete something like 50 trips a month to gain the benefits of the rewards program.
Since then, Uber has changed it where everyone benefits whether you have taken one trip or 1,000 trips.
As long as you are taking one trip a month and stay active with Uber, you qualify for the discounts.
The only exception would be the Fuel Rewards Card, which requires 100 trips a month to save at the pump. If you have a credit card that saves you 1%-2%, the Fuel card is basically the same thing.

How to Claim Your Uber Driver Discounts
It only takes a few steps to receive discounts.
- If you haven’t already, make sure you sign up for Uber. Not a driver, no discounts.
- After you signed up and took a few trips to qualify, Log into the partner app.
- Click on “Ratings”
- Scroll down to “Driving Rewards” and click.
- Scroll to the rewards that interest you and click
- Once you click on the discount, you’ll be shown instructions on how to claim the reward. Places like auto shops often just require you to show the coupon on the phone, while something like a phone plan will have you enroll online.
- Claim your discounts and enjoy your savings!
Final Thoughts on Uber Driver’s Reward’s Program
Basically anyone that gets approved from Uber can participate in their reward’s program. You take one trip a month, and you qualify. The amount of potential money you can save using this program I feel just justifies another reason why it’s beneficial to drive for Uber.
Even if you don’t find the driving side profitable (some do, some don’t), the time spent signing up and taking the one trip is minimal compared to the value you are getting out of it.
Of course, if you don’t have a car or use the phone services that offer discounts, then I can understand why it wouldn’t make sense to sign up.
